Another year has flown by so before we move into 2020 I thought I would reflect on the year of 2019.
This season I joined the University West England American Football team as team sports therapist. I am thoroughly enjoying working with the team of players and coaches and am looking forward to seeing what 2020 has in store for us (hopefully a place in the playoffs!)
In 2019 I travelled with to Israel with the Great Britains women’s American Football team to compete in the European Championship. We came 2nd and had thankfully had no major injuries – read about it here. Next year we travel to the World Championship and our preparation has already begun!
In 2019 the Gridiron Strong branding was updated! Read about it here.
This year Jakki continued to work with the Northumberland Vikings and Newcastle Raiders. She also worked with the women’s GB tackle team at the European Championship in Leeds and has now become lead therapist with the team. Did you know that Jakki also plays football herself? At the last game she played, Jakki received team MVP for the Teesside Steelers!
I have continued to work on my research in British American Football, with some recent big developments (more news to come in 2020!). I am hoping to publish my first piece in 2020 and continue with others in order to help develop the game in this country.
After working with the North East Academy of American Football for a number of seasons, Will has now taken on the head coach role for the 2020 season.
On a snowy weekend in February the GB women’s flag football team travelled to Norkopping, Sweden to play the Swedish national team in a friendly. It was a great experience for all involved and I’ll be sure to visit Sweden in the near future to explore the beautiful country.
I hope you enjoyed looking through 2019 in photos. 2020 is looking to be a jam-packed year already! I cannot wait to see what other surprises there are in store!
